Heart Mountain Trailhead

Uphill Trail to Summit Overlooking Cody

Trailhead on Buck Creek on Valley Trail in Rocky Mountains near Cody, WY

Heart Mountain Trailhead is the starting point for a 3.5 mile one-way hike up to the summit of Heart Mountain. The first half, known as the "Valley Trail" progresses up the sagebrush-covered foothills until the junction with the "Ridge Road". At the point the "Mountain Trail" switchbacks through the pine trees up to the summit. The summit offers a beautiful vantage point of Cody and a 360 degree view of the Bighorn Basin.

The trailhead is managed by the Nature Conservancy as part of the Heart Mountain Ranch Preserve. To get to the trailhead turn left onto Road 19 (the same road that the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center is on) and follow it until signs guide you to the trailhead. At the entrance to the preserve you must sign and register your name in the guestbook.
