Trail head is located on Jack Creek Road and the start of the actual trail is difficult to find. There is no well-defined trail for the first 1/4 mile. Head towards a post in the middle of a meadow, then walk uphill to the left and after coming over a rise you will see a large single tree with a Forest Service trail blaze on it, from that tree look to the right where you will see another blazed tree and the beginning of the defined trail. Trail is easy to follow after the initial route finding.
This trail is very lightly traveled and not maintained as often as others. There are  down trees to climb over/under and the loose dirt and rock are slippery on the steeper parts of the trail. If you are hiking with dogs, bring extra water as there is none available on the trail unless you go to Solitude Lake after reaching the saddle. Our group tracked the trail as 7.5-8 miles round trip.
