This trailhead has several open areas for camping all of which have amazing views of granite domes, including Balloon Dome.  The last half mile of road to trailhead is high-clearance 4WD only (July 2018); however, it is possible to park along the dirt road as soon as it leaves the forest and crosses some open granite (with some OK car camping spots here as well) further up the hill.   The trailhead has an old wood sign and trail drops downward toward the creek to the north.
