Popular Recreation Spot in Shoshone National Forest

Basin in Shoshone NF, Rocky Mountains near Wapiti, WY

Sunlight Basin is located along Chief Joseph Scenic Byway on the way to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Dead Indian Overlook provides the best view of the entire basin - ranging the line of mountains including Sunlight Peak in the south to the Beartooth Mountains in the north. It is a popular location for elk hunting, hiking, and fishing.
