Hike

Afternoon wandering about the badlands. Encountered invertebrate fossils in limestone (not sure of what, though). Also had an interesting time pulling Lucy out of a bentonite sinkhole she fell into.

Sinkhole
“Sobering experience here. Lucy (my dog) was hauling as usual, came across this quickly, and in the spur of the moment thought she could clear it. Nope – disappeared over the edge, and fell in. After a few attempts from different angles, I just barely got her out by hanging over the edge on my stomach, grabbing the scruff of her neck while she tried to climb out. The picture may not look like much, but it was deep, with steep walls, and two drainage tunnels going underground for who knows how long.”
