The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) is a long-distance hiking and equestrian trail that runs approximately 3,100 miles through the Rocky Mountains in the United States. It begins at the Mexico-US border in New Mexico and ends at the US-Canada border in Montana. The trail follows the Continental Divide, the boundary between the Pacific and Atlantic watersheds, and passes through the states of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. The CDT is considered one of the “big three” long-distance hiking trails in the United States, along with the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail. The CDT is less developed and more rugged than the other two trails, and a thru-hike of the entire trail can take several months to complete.
