Forested Trail Near Bozeman Pass With Climbing Access

Trailhead on Rocky Creek on Chestnut Mountain Trail in Rocky Mountains near Bozeman, MT

Located just outside of Bozeman, the Chestnut Mountain Trail offers great hiking, biking and mountain climbing. The trailhead contains plenty of parking and is well marked – just off Interstate 90. This trail starts out with light tree cover and has a steady incline that winds through private land. At the logging road 0.8 miles in, the trail enters public land.

The trail forks 1.2 miles in, with the right fork leading to the Frog Rock Climbing Area. To the left, the trail continues and climbs roughly 1,500ft to the Chestnut Mountain ridge line where there are spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges. From there, the trail connects with trails emanating from Goose Creek and New World Gulch.
