California Kingsnake
Lampropeltis californiae (species)
On the Web
On Wikipedia
The California kingsnake (Lampropeltis californiae) is a nonvenomous colubrid snake endemic to the western United States and northern Mexico, and is found in a variety of habitats. Due to ease of care and a wide range of color variations, the California kingsnake is one of the most popular snakes in captivity. The California Kingsnake's length is, on average, three to four feet (91.4 to 122 cm), with occasional individuals exceeding 60 inches (152.4 cm), and California Kingsnakes on Islas Angel de la Guarda, Baja California, Mexico, can reach 78 inches (2 m). Their colors may vary, but they are usually found with brown/black and white/tan bands (also referred to as “rings”).
