Redwood Grove in Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Coast Ranges near Shively, CA

Administered as a tract of the relatively small and remote Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, this old-growth redwood grove is among the area’s best preserved. Owen R. Cheatham of the Georgia Pacific Lumber company donated the land for all visitors to enjoy.

Cheatham Grove may not be well known by name, but it is a bit of a global celebrity. The speeder bike chase scene in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi was partially filmed in this grove. This Jalopnik article goes into detail about how they filmed that particular scene.
