Welcome to the Klootchy Creek County Park, home of Oregon’s first Heritage Tree. Enjoy this verdant primeval old growth rain forest of costal hemlock and spruce. The Necanium River, which runs through the park, is home to chinook, steelhead, and coho salmon.
The Klootchy Creek Giant was the largest Sitka Spruce (Picae sitchensis) in the United States, towering more than 200 feet tall and measuring 17 feet, 10 inches in diameter – and attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year. Estimated to be between 500 and 750 years old, it was the oldest tree in Oregon and possibly the oldest living thing in the state.
