Patersonia fragilis is a flowering plant in the Iridaceae family. It is referred to by the common names short purple flag or swamp iris, and is a herbaceous perennial native to southeastern Australia. There are 3 unique petals on the flower that is arranged in an actinomorphic pattern, where it remains symmetrical in two or more planes. Being shaped like a rhomboid, its dimensions can vary from 1.2-2.3cm in length and 1-1.5cm in width. It is distinctly noticeable through its bright pale violet color that consist of a mix of blue and violet hues. The Patersonia fragilis has leaves coloured in grey with an unusual glaucous like surface that serves a peculiar function in protecting the plant from harm through this white powdery coating.
