The Northern Limestone/Dolomite Valleys ecoregion is a lowland characterized by broad, level to undulating, fertile valleys that are extensively farmed. The Great Valley, the Shenandoah Valley, and the Nittany Valley all occur in Ecoregion 67a. Sinkholes, underground streams, and other karst features have developed on the underlying limestone/dolomite, and as a result, the drainage density is low. Where streams occur, they tend to have gentle gradients, plentiful year around flow, and distinctive fish assemblages. Local relief typically ranges from 50 to 500 feet (15-152 m).
