The deep, narrow Lower Clearwater Canyons are lower, drier, warmer, and have been more developed than Ecoregion 16c or the physiographically distinct hills and mountains of Ecoregions 15i, 15n, 15p, and 15v. Savanna, Douglas-fir – ponderosa pine forest, and, in riparian areas, western redcedar – western white pine – grand fir forest occur. Forests are more widespread on canyon bottoms than on slopes.
