Time Period
850 AD – 1300
Cultural Group
Ancient Puebloans (Anasazi)
The Maze Rock Art Site got its name from the abstract, maze-like petroglyph featured prominently on the main panel. This rock art is thought to have originated between A.D. 850 and 1300. Art from this time period often depicts human-like images and animal forms, such as bighorn sheep, deer, and mountain lion. Geometric patterns are also common, including mazes, spirals, and concentric circles. Studying the images at this site can help tell the story of what life was like for prehistoric people.
