Sky Island with Rhyolite Rock Pinnacles

Known as ‘The Land of Standing-Up Rocks’ by the Apache, Chiricahua National Monument preserves a a portion of the sky island Chiricahua Mountains characterized by its rhyolite rock pinnacles. It received National Monument status in 1924 to protect its natural wonders and cultural significance.
