Saddle Mountain, a peak in the volcanic Absaroka Range, is in the northeast quadrant of Yellowstone National Park. In 1880, the park’s second superintendent, Philetus Norris, bestowed the name “Saddle Mountain” upon the peak, as its contour along the adjoining skyline bore a striking resemblance to a saddle when observed from Lamar Valley.
The photograph above shows Saddle Mountain from a Druid Peak hillside. Pollux Peak is in the background.
Saddle Mountain is on the skyline as a bull bison crests the photograph’s center ridge, Mary Meagher (NPS) photograph above.

Saddle Mountain is on the far left, Hague Mountain is just left of center, and Little Saddle Mountain is just right of center in the sunset photograph above.
