Brewer Mountain on some older maps is listed as Dan Brewer’s Mountain. There are no official hiking trails on Brewer Mountain but there are a number of old dirt roads. The mountain was the site of granite mining operations many years ago and there are at least a couple of sites where granite was being mined.
Brewer Mountain was also the site of the Bar Harbor Water company and a number of large foundations can be found in the woods at the base of the mountain. Two of the largest were actually part of a very large sand filtering system where the town of Bar Harbors drinking water once passed through. There are also a number of "interesting" finds left over from the water company in the nearby woods.
The main dirt road that leads into the woods from the eagle Lake Road lead to a small field with a stone tower located in the center of the field. This fairly large stone tower was once part of that filtering system.
The waters of Duck Brook run past the stone tower and a large pipe line, part above ground, leads to the edge of the rapid waters of the brook.
I have a map I made of the location of the tower, but if your driving up the Eagle Lake road simply park near the corner of the Eagle Lake Road and Duck Brook Road, walk along the right side of the Eagle lake Road and just beyond the guard rails there is an opening in the woods with the dirt road leading down to the Stone Tower.
