Deep Lake

A Gem of a Lake in a Lesser-Known Area of the Marble Mountains
Lake in Klamath NF, Marble Mountain Wilderness, Coast Ranges, Klamath Mountains near Greenview, CA
This deep, clear lake is surrounded on three sides by cliffs and mountains, and on the north by a rolling meadow. There is a large campsite on the northern shore. Although not shown on some maps, a side trail from the way trail between Lower Wright Lake and Little Elk Lake leads about a half-mile to Deep Lake. A note about access: the trail from the Boulder Creek trailhead is steep, and climbs from 4000 feet to 6600 feet quite quickly. Parts of it follow old mining roads put in with a caterpillar tractor, a machine which has no feeling for gradient. But after gaining the ridge east of Second Valley, the trail levels out and the scenery gets much better!
