Avalanche Lake

Gorgeous Sub-Alpine Lake With Lots of Opportunity to Explore
Lake in Gallatin NF, Lee Metcalf Wilderness, Rocky Mountains near Grayling, MT

Getting There

The Avalanche Lake trailhead is accessed by traveling up Beaver Creek Road off of Hebgen Lake Road. There are 5-10 parking spots at the trailhead and plenty of camping opportunities along the road.
The hike in is roughly 6.5 miles and 2200’ of elevation gain. There are several small creek crossings that require some rock-hopping to avoid getting wet feet, but aren’t at all dangerous.
As of 7/19/15 the trail is not recommended for stock, due to he heavy erosion that is occurring in the natural avalanche chutes.
