Loma del Rio
, (“Little Hill by the River”), was a small residence which was occupied during the Classic Period, (A.D. 1200 to 1450). It was home to approximately 15 to 20 people belonging to an extended family. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and several generations of parents probably lived together. It provides a glimpse at life away from the large Classic Period towns.
The single room on the east side of the site appears to have been used for cooking. The remaining six rooms were build as residences. However, some time during the occupation of the site, three of the rooms on the north and west side of the roomblock were sealed off, probably for storage. They would have been entered from an opening in the roof. The concentration of rocks on the southeast side of the site appear to be the remnants of a plaza area that was used for a variety of outdoor domestic activities.
