Millville Historic Townsite

Remnants of Two Ore Stamp Mills

Millville was one of two towns born at this location from the late 1870’s mining boom in the region. It was the first established and became the working heart of the community, site of two ore stamp mills straddling the San Pedro River. Charlestown was the second town established on the western side of the river, largely a residential community.

Both towns started to decline in the 1880s, as nearby Tombstone depleted its resources and these sites became less profitable. The Anthology of Articles V2 by Friends of the San Pedro River offers several compiled articles about the site.

Today an interpretive loop takes visitors through the ruins of Millville on the east bank of the river, intertwined with ancient petroglyphs. Charlestown requires some off-trail exploration to visit.
