Lone Star Geyser has a major eruption that sprays water 30-40 feet every 3-4 hours. The eruptions can last up to 15 minutes. Often there are shorter and smaller minor eruptions 20 to 40 minutes before each major eruption. Visitors can record eruptions at at a register at the geyser.Getting there is an easy 2.5 mile hike starting at Lone Star Trailhead that follows an old paved road along the Firehole River. Bikes are allowed up to the beginning of the thermal area.
