The South Valley Alluvium ecoregion occurs on a level basin and on nearly level to gently sloping alluvial fans in the southern San Joaquin Valley. The soil temperature regime is thermic and soil moisture is aridic. Vegetation includes perennial bunchgrasses and annual grasslands, allscale scrub, mesquite dunelands, and some iodinebush. Basin ponding occurs. Cropland, pasture and grassland, and urban are dominant land uses. Numerous oil fields occur.
