The Kaibito/Moenkopi Sandy Plateaus are distinguished by their abundance of eolian materials and sand shrubland vegetation communities. Sand and silt blown out of the Little Colorado River Valley is deposited on these plateau surfaces to the east. Elevations range from 4800 to 6300 feet and annual precipitation is 7 to 10 inches. Galleta grass, Indian ricegrass, spike dropseed, winterfat, and sand dropseed occur. Many areas that once supported grasslands are now dominated by snakeweed, soapweed yucca, and Mormon tea.
