The Eastern Sierra Great Basin Slopes ecoregion comprises the very steep eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. It tends to have more conifers and sagebrush, in contrast to the sparser Mojave Desert scrub typical of Ecoregion 5j to the south. Singleleaf pinyon pine and sagebrush are common, with some areas of bitterbrush and Utah juniper. Some Jeffrey and lodgepole pines occur at high elevations. Soil temperature regimes are mostly mesic and frigid. Soil moisture regimes are mostly xeric in the north to aridic in the south.
