Built in 1915, the Fossil Springs Dam diverted water from Fossil Creek into a series of flumes that flowed nearly four miles down the Fossil Canyon to the
Irving Powerhouse
. The 25-foot high concrete structure was built entirely by hand measuring 5 feet wide at its top and more than 24 feet wide at its base. The dam was approximately a quarter mile downstream from the
seven main springs
that feed the creek. In 2008, the top 14 feet of the dam were removed. What you see today is the remaining 11 feet. The 28 million gallons of water produced per date from the springs now flow freely, allowing Fossil Creek’s native riparian plants and animals to flourish.
