This is an incredibly scenic four-day paddle through Adirondack Park. Canoe rental can be had at St. Regis Canoe Outfitters. They will drive you to the put-in in Long Lake. Long Lake provides a nice half-day paddle to dispersed camping as you enter the Raquette River river. Very few other parties were seen even during mid-July.
From there you continue up Raquette River and potage the falls. A nice place to stop for lunch and paddle as far as you feel to one of the lean-to’s along the Raquette River or press further to ease the workload on day 3.
From there paddle north to Axton’s Landing and make the turn toward Stoney Creek Ponds. Don’t be discouraged, it will look as if the waterway is impassable but it can be picked through. Follow it up to the ponds and Indian Carry. From there it’s north in Upper Saranac Lake to Buck Island.
From there it’s a half-day paddle back to St. Regis Canoe Outfitters.
There are countless variations possible due to the campsites and dispersed camping available on the route.
